EAA92 Members and Friends,

AirVenture 2025 was the venue for the unveiling of the biggest news to hit general aviation in many years – the MOSAIC, informally dubbed Light Sport 2.0, rulemaking from the FAA.  The original Light Sport rules, covering both Light Sport pilots and the Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) they were licensed to fly, has been around now for 20+ years, and provided a way for aspiring pilots to get a license in about half the time required for a private pilot license, and to use a standard driver’s license in lieu of an FAA Medical Certificate.  The license and new aircraft definitions came with some restrictions which hindered the demand for both the license and the LSA’s, and led to a scarcity of flight schools, instructors, and examiners available to provide training and aircraft rental for aspiring students.  The new MOSIAC rules are intended to address those shortcomings, and breathe new life into light sport and general aviation.
