SUMMARY:2026 Annual Summer BBQ and Live Auction
DESCRIPTION:EAA Chapter 92 BBQ event this August 23\, 2026!!\n\nJoin us this summer to watch the sunset over beautiful Chino Airport. This event is free for EAA92/EAA members\, Young Eagles pilots/volunteers\, guests\, and SoCal Pilots Association members and their guests. In other words\, all who have an interest in supporting aviation\, especially Chino pilots and tenants are invited. We will be providing barbecue and soft drinks. \nEAA Chapter 92 invites you to participate in a cause that is close to our hearts and essential to the future of aviation. This year we are going to up the fun factor by holding a live auction and we would be honored to feature anything you would like to get out of your closet\, garage\, hangar\, desk drawer or wherever you keep things you don’t use. It’s a great way to turn something you don’t need into someone else’s treasure and inspire a young aviator. \n\nChapter 92 is dedicated to inspiring and educating young people about the wonders of flight. Proceeds from our auction are used to send kids to the world-renowned aviation adventure camp in Oshkosh\, where they gain hands-on experience\, mentorship\, and\nmemories that last a lifetime. \nExamples of wonderful donations include: \n\nThat popcorn popper\, extra tool\, perfume\, or dog thunder vest someone gave you\nAviation/space souvenirs\, apparel\, accessories\nA trip on Blue Origin\nGift baskets\, electronics\, or memorabilia\nFlight experiences or scenic tours\nVacation getaways or tickets to events\nProfessional services—photography\, lessons\, or consultations\nDining experiences\, gift cards\, or local specialties\n\nAs a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization\, all donations are tax-deductible to the extent\npermitted by law. \nIf you are able to contribute something\, just bring it with you to the BBQ and the rest will be history! \n\nWe will be providing barbecue and soft drinks. We ask that if your last name starts with a letter A to M\, then bring a salad\, and if your last names starts with a letter N to Z\, then please bring a dessert. \nThis is a Sunday event that replaces our regular August meeting. \nThe BBQ will take place at the Cal Aero hangar\, 14925 Cal Aero Drive B-181 Chino\, CA 91710. SUMMARY:September EAA 92 General Meeting -- Gil Rud\, Flight Leader of the Blue Angels
DESCRIPTION: – Gil Rud\, Flight Leader of the Blue Angels — \n  \n\nOur speaker\, Gil Rud\, will share his experience as Flight Leader of the Blue Angels\, the world famous US Navy Squadron. \n\nThe Blue Angels mission is to showcase the pride and professionalism of the United States Navy and Marine Corps\, by inspiring a culture of excellence and service to the country through flight demonstrations and community outreach. \nThe team has six pilots from the U.S. Navy and one from the US Marine Corps.  Formed in 1946\, the unit is the second-oldest formal aerobatic team in the world.  An estimated 11 million spectators view the squadron during air shows each year.  Since 1946\, the Blue Angels have flown for more than 505 million spectators. \nGil’s presentation will include a view of his experience transitioning the Blue Angels from the A4 Skyhawk to the F/A-18 Hornet.  He will also discuss key moments of his fascinating career. \n\nRud first joined the Navy in 1967 and received his Wings of Gold one year later\, where he was initially assigned to the A-4 Skyhawk\, and deployed to the Mediterranean. Upon returning from his initial cruise\, he transitioned to the A-7 Corsair II and deployed to Vietnam aboard the USS Oriskany in May of 1971. \nFollowing his first combat deployment\, Rud served as the Junior CAG LSO for the first cruise of the F-14A Tomcat and the first West Coast Cruise of the S-3A Viking.  He would qualify to fly the F-14 prior to leaving for the cruise in order to do the job more effectively. \nIn April of 1975\, he participated in Operation Frequent Wind\, flying top cover for H-46 and CH-53 rescue helicopters during the evacuation of the embassy in Saigon. \n\nRud eventually became the XO/CO of VA-192\, the World Famous Golden Dragons\, where he finished as the Top Tailhooker in the Air Wing for the entire Westpac Cruise aboard the USS Ranger. \nWhile serving as Head of Junior Officer Detailing in Arlington\, Virginia\, Rud was awarded the position of Flight Leader and Commanding Officer of the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron\, the Blue Angels. \n  \nMEETING DETAILS: \nThis in-person meeting will be held at the IRWD Community Room at 15500 Sand Canyon Ave in Irvine. \nSeptember 1\, 2026. \nHangar Talk social period: 6:30 to 7:00 PM \nMeeting begins at 7:00 PM \nPresentation begins approx. 7:15 PM \n \n“Irvine Ranch Water District makes its facilities available for use by residents and nonprofit organizations merely as a public service\, but does not\, by allowing this use\, endorse or support the purpose of the event or its sponsor.”
