JURCA MJ-5 SIROCCO – N616RB

THIS MJ-5 SIROCCO IS A TWO-PLACE, TANDEM, LOW WING, FIXED-GEAR PLANS-BUILT HOMEBUILT AIRCRAFT OF FRENCH DESIGN, DESIGNED FOR AEROBATICS AND WW-II FIGHTER-LIKE HANDLING.
The MJ-5 was designed in the 60’s by Marcel Jurca, with its first flight in 1962. Marcel Jurca, a Romanian who emigrated to France following WW-II, was a frustrated wanna-be fighter pilot, and after the war, wanted to create that same flight experience in a light civilian aircraft that homebuilders could construct. He designed the MJ-5 using wooden fuselage, spar and wing structures covered with thin plywood and fabric, similar to some other homebuilt designs of that time
N616RB was built by Reuben Berg of Fullerton, a former member of Chapter 92, and had its first flight on September 17, 1982. The aircraft has been lightly used, with only 334 total airframe and engine hours, has been hangared throughout its life and is currently located at Chino Airport. It is equipped with a Lycoming O-290-D2, 140 Hp engine and a fixed pitch propeller, and cruises at 150 mph, stalls at 59 mph, with the typical approach at 80, and over the fence speed of 70-75. Empty weight is 1057 lbs; gross at 1580 lbs with 19 gal of fuel. The panel is equipped with basic VFR instrumentation, including nav/com and transponder. The last annual condition inspection was in October, 2010. Asking $20,000.
