Louis Beaulieu began building his RV-9 in 2001, and finally completed it in 2010. Along the way, he decided to build his own engine, after first trying to make do with a used engine. He began his flight test program in January 2011, and as of October, still has some items to complete before finishing the flight test period.
He has made two presentations to the chapter, the first on his engine building project, and the second on his flight test program. The presentations are provided as links below, in PDF format, and some detailed documents from his flight test program are also included to give the full flavor of the complexity of a thorough flight test program for a homebuilt aircraft.
